TH Mannheim and JudaicaLink strengthen digital infrastructure for Jewish Studies

By: Prof. Dr. Kai Eckert | Mon, 26 Jan 2026

The German Research Foundation (DFG) has approved a new three-year funding phase for the FID Jüdische Studien, securing up to two million euros to further expand the central research information infrastructure for Jewish and Israel Studies.

A key partner in this new funding period is the Technische Hochschule Mannheim (TH Mannheim). Professor Dr. Kai Eckert and his team continue their long-standing collaboration with the leading institution, the Universitätsbibliothek Johann Christian Senckenberg.

At TH Mannheim, the focus lies on the further development of JudaicaLink, a Linked Open Data service that connects and curates highly specialised data resources for Jewish Studies. Through a domain-specific knowledge graph and curated authority data, JudaicaLink enables sustainable access to research data and supports modern, data-driven research practices.

The service is fully integrated into the FID’s central information platform and plays a crucial role in linking scholarly resources, digital collections and reference data across institutions and disciplines.

With the start of the new funding phase (2026–2028), TH Mannheim and its partners will continue to strengthen the digital foundations of Jewish Studies in close cooperation with the academic community.

We look forward to this next round of funding and to further collaboration within the FID network, continuing our joint commitment to innovative and sustainable research infrastructures.
