A ninja robot climbs a guarded dojo from the deepest cellar up to the roof, and the real opponent is the light. You read the cones cast by the lamps, move from shadow to shadow and stay out of the guards' lines of sight. Being seen in the light is an instant game over.
Your one tool is a grappling hook that pulls you up to hatches in the ceiling; between the guarded rooms, ventilation shafts run through the walls as secret routes. Scattered scrolls are optional loot — collecting them all means taking more risk. Make noise and the guards switch on their lights and start searching. Depending on your route and your nerve, a climb takes anywhere from 2 to 15 minutes.
The team took Mark of the Ninja as their reference and deliberately cut the scope down to the mechanics that carry it: sneaking, light cones, sight lines, grappling hook and vents. All sprites, animation frames, backgrounds and the map were made by the team. It is the only project of the semester that also ships as a Windows download.
